The Chemise Dress
The French chemise has been around, in one form or another, since the Middle Ages. A simple shift, worn close to the body, made for ease and endurance. Over the centuries it has been undergarment, nightgown, working dress and, in the right hands, trés chic. Our Chemise Dress takes that long history and makes it entirely its own.
Garment description
Cut from 100% linen, the Staithes Dress fastens down the front with small, neat buttons and falls long and easy to the ankle.
A lace insert at the hem adds a floaty, weightless quality to the hem, as though the dress is still moving after you have stopped.
It can be worn with the buttons at the front or the back, depending on the day. In-seam pockets.
Available in four colourways:
Natural
Brown
Cream
Black

How to wear it
Wear it with the Farndale Blouse underneath, the collar and cuffs showing at the neck and wrists, for a layered look that earns its keep in any weather. The Keeper Waistcoat over the top pulls the whole outfit together beautifully. For something more sweeping and dramatic, thrown the the Halfmoon Dresscoat over the top.
The Keeper Waistcoat layered over the top adds structure and warmth. For cooler days, the Harvest Jacket completes the outfit.
Our styles are designed with a generous cut to give an ‘A-line’ silhouette.
Belts, buttons and other accessories can be used to accentuate wherever you would like.
The garments can be sized up and down freely, depending upon your fit preference and with layering in mind.
